While gladiator sandals are often pegged as the ultimate trend item, their history is in fact long and colorful.  One of history’s oldest shoes, the calf length sandal was appropriated with bravado and conviction by futuristic space age fashion designers.  Perhaps the appeal lies in the fact that the design offers a unique paradox, equal parts provocative and utilitarian.

To say that this historic city is undergoing an exciting renaissance of sorts is definitely an understatement.  I was enamored with the picturesque streets that captured the southern culture, enlivened with a mix of modern flare.

Just in time for 2013’s Pride week, the Supreme Court’s ruled to strike down The Defense of Marriage Act, taking a definitive step forward in the name of love and equality.  To celebrate the decision, we use Nostalgia this week to commemorate the power of the rainbow flag, what has become the most recognized symbol of the gay rights movement.
